Golden Melody Award winning singer-songwriter Ricky Hsiao Huang Qi will be holding his first solo concert in Singapore, titled SEAT FOR LOVE. As one of the most successful singer-songwriters in Taiwan, Hsiao’s songwriting is largely influenced by his life stories, and is known for composing songs with heartfelt lyrics and soulful tunes.
Despite his visual impairment, Hsiao managed to achieve international stardom through persistence and sheer talent, bringing hope and optimism to his fans and listeners of his music. The lyrical genius has released countless albums in Chinese and Taiwanese-Hokkien to global acclaim.
Apart from singing and songwriting, Hsiao has also taken on the role of an orchestra leader, lead singer, guitarist, saxophone player and jazz drummer in an orchestra made up of visually-impaired individuals, which has been invited to perform at concerts worldwide. Hsiao is also a professional Judo athlete who has won numerous medals in many national judo competitions.
In 1999, Hsiao was recognised as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Youths in Taiwan. In 2016, he became the first visually-impaired artist to stage a concert at the Taipei Arena. Since his debut 20 years ago, he has been nominated 19 times for the Golden Melody Awards, and has three Best Taiwanese Album and four Best Taiwanese Male Singer wins under his belt.
