2019, you’ve been splendid.
Here at the Sands Theatre, we have entertained hundreds of thousands of people yearly.
This year is extra special for us; a year full of firsts.
West End favourite Matilda the Musical finally made its Asian premiere. What’s more, we had our local talented actress, Sofia Poston, playing the titular role of Matilda alongside three amazing girls. We are immensely proud to watch Sofia shine on the international stage.
The Phantom of the Opera returned to Singapore. This time, the brand new international production stunned us all with the iconic Chandelier and detailed sets. It proved once again the beauty and timelessness of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic.
In July, the talk of the town was the hit Broadway musical, Disney’s Aladdin. More than 90,000 people were bedazzled by the glitzy gold Cave of Wonders. Aladdin made its only stop in Asia here in Singapore and everyone was thrilled by the Genie and fell in love with Aladdin and Jasmine’s story again.
We then envisioned and transformed the theatre space into a lush grand exhibition showroom like never before with Patek Philippe’s Grand Watch Art Exhibition. It was the biggest exhibition edition for Patek Philippe yet, sprawling over 1,800 sqm of space. We are delighted at the results of 10 beautifully themed rooms in our theatre!
